(1) Advantages

a. Subbase concrete has high strength and good stability;

b. Subbase concrete has good integrity and high bearing capacity;

c. The strength of subbase concrete can be adjusted, and the 7d compressive strength can be less than 1.0MPa or more than 10MPa of plain concrete;

d. Almost all kinds of soil can be stabilized with cement;

e. Rolling compacted concrete (RCC) can be mixed in place on the highway or in centralized plant, which is convenient for construction;

f. It is economical to use cement aggregate soil in areas lacking granular materials.

(2) Shortcomings

a. The abrasion effect of automobile tires cannot be directly accepted.

b. Large shrinkage coefficient, easy to produce shrinkage cracks;

c. Because hydration and hardening are relatively fast, the construction period is short;

d. It is not suitable to construct in rainy season, or it is difficult to construct in rainy season.

Relevant requirements during construction

During the construction of rolling compacted concrete (RCC) structure, the following provisions shall be observed:

(1) The soil block shall be crushed as much as possible, and the maximum size of the soil block shall not be greater than 15mm.

(2) Ingredients shall be accurate.

(3) During road mixing construction, the cement shall be evenly paved.

(4) Spray water and mix evenly.

(5) The thickness and elevation of the base shall be strictly controlled, and the cross slope of the road arch shall be consistent with the surface.

(6) Rolling shall be carried out when the mixture is at or slightly greater than the optimum water content (the base mixture can be greater than 1% ~ 2% in hot and dry climate) until the required compactness (minimum requirement) determined according to the heavy compaction test method below is reached.
